LAKES COAST VISITOR GUIDE | PAGE 115 MERIMBULA Just 10 minutes from Merimbula and nestled in the beautiful Bega Valley, you'll find Potoroo Palace - a fascinating native animal sanctuary that's perfect for the whole family. Open every day from 9am till 4pm, at Potaroo Palace you can meet koalas, kangaroos, echidnas, emus and more. You can even touch a snake, then stroll through the cooling mist of a walk-through aviary, go for a ride on the mini train, encounter Trevor the cheeky Brush Tailed Possum, and also enjoy a delicious lunch and coffee at the Blue Wren Café. Barbecues are also available. A not-for-profit organisation passionate about caring for the earth, the team at Potoroo Palace is dedicated to: • Improving the habitats/wellbeing of native animals in its care • Promoting public awareness of their animals' plight in the wild, and • Educating the community about the importance of the conservation of unique Australian native animals and plants. Potoroo Palace runs complimentary Keeper Talks, and - for a little extra on your ticket price - you can book an 'Animal Encounter' tour, which provides a more close-up experience with the animals. It's best to make enquiries before your visit if you wish to take up this special and memorable option.
