Lakes Coast Visitor Guide

PAGE 76 | LAKES COAST VISITOR GUIDE TWIN RIVERS Two rivers. One very peaceful getaway. The Nicholson and Tambo rivers – and the townships of Nicholson, Johnsonville and Swan Reach through which they flow – are known as the Twin Rivers area. This is a popular destination for people seeking a peaceful getaway, with a number of camping and caravan sites close to these rivers – making it an ideal spot for fishing and boating all year around. Nicholson offers the first glimpse of the Nicholson River, with its spectacular historical railway bridge, which is now part of the renowned East Gippsland Rail Trail. The next lovely town is Johnsonville, where you can launch your boat (or drop a line) from the floating pontoon on the Tambo River. The town of Swan Reach is also located on the banks of the Tambo River. Set on the corner of the Highway and the road to Metung, Swan Reach has picturesque river scenery, and, like Nicholson and Johnsonville, offers food, fishing and fuel.
