PAGE 30 | LAKES COAST VISITOR GUIDE WOODSIDE BEACH Ten kilometres from Yarram and about half-an-hour from Sale on the South Gippsland Highway is the township of Woodside. While it has a permanent population of less than 300 residents, during holiday periods the population swells as beach lovers flock to the region, not so much for the township, but for its nearby beach. The town's facilities include a petrol station, the Woodside General Store, a local pub, a primary school (with just 40 pupils) and a church. Woodside Beach – part of Gippsland's magnificent stretch of surf and sand known as the 90 Mile Beach – is 10 kilometres from Woodside, where you'll also find a playground with a large sheltered picnic and barbecue area, and the Woodside Surf Life Saving Club, whose members patrol the beach during main holiday periods. Nestled in the dunes If it's fishing or walking on the beach that you seek, or somewhere to simply relax, the Woodside Beach Caravan Park might be just the place for you. Nestled in the dunes of the 90 Mile Beach, this dog-friendly caravan and camping park is also the perfect base for a fishing trip. Australian salmon, gummy shark and flathead are the main catches from this magnificent surf beach. At Woodside Beach Caravan Park you'll also find a kiosk with bait and fishing tackle, boogie boards, bread, milk, ice cream and more. There's also an infant room, a disabled toilet and shower, gas bottle swap, electric barbecue, a laundry with washers and dryer, and even a traditional book swap. Open fires are permitted, but conditions do apply. Accommodation includes comfortable fully-equipped and air-conditioned en suite cabins that can accommodate up to six people. All double beds include bedding and covers, but you need to bring all your own towels, and bedding for single beds. Many of the camping and caravan sites are nestled among the trees, while other sites are more open – and close to the dunes and the beach. Either way, you're sure to find a perfect spot, within easy earshot of the meditative rolling waves. Lots of beautiful birds, including stunning black cockatoos, frequently fly over the park, making a stay at Woodside Beach Caravan Park all the more special.
