But through the sheer determination of a core bunch of volunteers, the club not only survived, it prospered. With the volunteers taking over the maintenance and making improvements to the course, it is now a stunning tribute to their skill, grit and fortitude. Professionals marvel at the quality and condition of the course and often find it hard to believe the club has no paid ground staff. It has been rated Australia’s number one volunteer-run and maintained golf course and in the top 10 per cent of Victorian public access courses. Visitors are welcome to play a round or two at Yarram. Competition days are Dedicated volunteers have resurrected the Yarram Golf Club to be one of the best in the country. Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday, and members invite you to join them. On other days the course is almost exclusively yours. The club has four powered caravan sites available and electric carts and clubs are available for hire if you need them. Play a round and you will be enjoying an 18-hole watered sandbelt course with generous greens and beautiful lies year round. Carved out of natural bush there’s every chance that you’ll be joined on your way around the course by wildlife including kangaroos and koalas and, if you’re lucky, a goanna. The course is never wet and never dry, making it playable all year round. Pick the right day and join members for a drink at the fully stocked bar. Yarram Golf Course is five minutes east of Yarram on the Sale road and well signposted. Enjoy a round of golf and relax in this beautiful quiet setting.
