With stalls showcasing collectables, antiques, man cave items, retro, bric-a- brac, and vintage treasures, experienced dealer of antiques, Richard Boletti, has brought together a concept that is pop- ular with bargain hunters and has attract- ed tourists from across the globe since opening its doors in December 2015. The Bairnsdale Bazaar is the home of about 30 stalls, all individually operated by friendly staff and offering an ever-changing and amazingly wide variety of wares. The old wares are in keeping with the historic nature of the heritage listed butter factory in which they’re housed. The building itself has a rich history, as building number two of the Old Butter Factory, built in 1891 by stonemason, William Ellis. Fresh local flavours Bairnsdale is home to numerous taste bud tantalisers whether it’s fresh fruit straight from the tree or the best of local meats and vegetables. TREE-RIPENED APPLES A long-time favourite with locals for its tree-ripened apples and friendly and knowledgeable service is Picnic Point Farm. The delightful names of older varieties ‘Gravenstein’ and ‘Coxes Orange Pippin’, as well as better known ‘Gala’, ‘Red Fuji’ and ‘Pink Lady’, are all synonymous with flavour, crispness and quality, as is the their own variety, simply known as ‘Picnic’. Operated by the Baldwin family for nearly four decades, new intensive growing systems have replaced the old apple orchards in recent years with a significant focus on value adding. Apple juice, both plain and sparkling, has proved to be a winner so far, as has Picnic Point’s apple cider and raspberry vinegar. FRESH FOOD MARKET Situated along the Paynesville Road in Bairnsdale is David Lucke’s Fresh Food Markets, a local institution of the Gippsland area. Family owned and operated, Lucke’s offers customers top quality local meats, seafood, fruit and vegetables. It also boasts its own smokehouse producing tasty smoked ham, bacon, kabana, smoked chicken and more. Dare to try the notorious Carolina Reaper chili kabana, which has a cult following with serious chili lovers! The friendly butcher shop service offers the convenience of a supermarket. There is a well-stocked grocery section with staples like bread and milk, plus a tasty array of specialty and locally produced items. Take advantage of the large customer car park with easy parking for caravans, boats and recreational vehicles. Lucke’s also has disabled toilet facilities, outdoor seating and even a grassed area to walk the dog Find tree-ripened delights and more at Picnic Point Farm.
