LAKES COAST VISITOR GUIDE | PAGE 89 LAKE TYERS Surf, shells and seabirds to soothe your soul While you're in the Lakes Entrance area, it's worth taking the short drive east to explore the natural beauty of Lake Bunga and Lake Tyers. Both offer the opportunity to explore breathtaking beaches, where you can feel the sand between your toes, marvel at the thousands of colourful, patterned shells that wash up on the shoreline, and see an array of seabirds hovering above or fossicking in the sand. In fact, it's lovely just to sit or lie on the sand and enjoy the sound of surf rolling in onto these vast, open beaches. The ocean shores here are popular with surf anglers, who are regularly seen knee-deep in the whitewater, reeling-in Australian salmon, mullet and dusky flathead. As well as being the gateway to some sensational natural beauty, the little village at Lake Tyers is an ideal place to stock-up on food and fishing supplies, or enjoy a drink and a meal, with stunning views out over the lake and ocean. Most of the waters of Lake Bunga and Lake Tyers – including the many secluded arms – are navigable by recreational vessels and kayaks. So, whether you're planning on boating, exploring or just relaxing, you'll be pleased you took the time to experience the scenic beauty of these two very special destinations.
