Lakes Coast Visitor Guide

PAGE 98 | LAKES COAST VISITOR GUIDE CANN RIVER The spectacular coastal wilderness of Croajingalong National Park is less than a hour’s drive from Cann River. Photo: Visit Victoria Nestled between the stunning Croajingolong and Coopracambra National Parks, Cann River, a traditional timber town, has become a popular stop with travellers before they journey east towards the Sapphire Coast, or north up the Monaro Highway, through the scenic Cann Valley. A small town, with a permanent population of less than 200, Cann River is a good place from which to explore Croajingolong National Park, Point Hicks Lighthouse and the ancient rainforests of Victoria’s far east. It is also a popular place to pick up supplies and rest a while. Here you can go camping, bushwalking or snorkelling off Point Hicks, and there’s also excellent fishing on offer in the multitude of creeks, rivers and inlets around Cann River. The nearby Coopracambra National Park is an unspoilt wilderness area, with an impressive gorge and granite peaks, while the remote Croajingolong National Park is famous for its wildlife and seemingly endless stretch of magnificent wilderness coastline.
