Once a bustling community that supported six timber mills in its heyday, Nowa Nowa is situated approximately 15 minutes east of Lakes Entrance on the tranquil Lake Tyers. The Mingling Waters Caravan Park and Café is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy this beautiful part of fabulous East Gippsland. Cast a fishing rod into the river or marvel at the collection of precious gemstones on display in the rooms adjoining the café. For the more adventurous, visit the 360 million year-old Devonian rock formation gorge, and on your return take the opportunity to relax in the numerous rock pools naturally heated by the underground thermal springs. The delightful springs, which come up via fissures in the limestone, produce coal compost heat. They start in Nowa Nowa and extend all the way across Victoria to Portland. If history interests you, then you’ll marvel at the Stony Creek trestle bridge, which was built in 1916 and saw the last train cross over it in 1988. At 247 metres long, it is one of the largest standing bridges of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The Nowa Nowa General Store is a source of information and owner, Sandra Huggins, is happy to offer advice and point tourists in the right direction. The lovely old store can also cater for all your fishing and camping needs, as well as selling hardware, petrol and just about anything else you need. Stop in at Nowa Nowa and indulge in a tasty meal at Mingling Waters Caravan Park and Café.
